Aurangzeb Khan, Co-Founder, President & CEO
Aurangzeb developed the company's vision, business plan and strategy in late 2010 / early 2011, and worked with Atif and Lars to develop the PanaCast® solution, raise the Series A round from investors with great entrepreneurial and early investor track records, and has helped grow the team with exceptional talent. Altia Systems’ products and solutions enable people to connect immersively via panoramic-HD video, using the PanaCast® system with the devices they already own, in a natural and intuitive way.
During 2009 – 2010, he was President & CEO at Everspin Technologies, Inc., a VC-funded spin-off focusing on MRAM ICs. In 2008, Aurangzeb co-founded Citius Consulting, a high-technology management consultancy with two public/private company CEO colleagues.
Earlier, he was co-founder, President & CEO at Altius Solutions and, following the merger with Simplex Solutions, EVP/GM of the SoC Design Foundry business at Simplex, contributing to a ~$300M IPO in May 2001 (NASD: SPLX). After Cadence Design Systems acquired Simplex in June 2002, he served as CVP/GM of Design Services business at Cadence.
Aurangzeb held senior engineering and general management positions at Cirrus Logic, Tandem Computers (now part of HP) and Fairchild. He helped deliver several industry-first systems and SoCs to market, including the Sony Computer Entertainment GS®I-32 and PlayStation®-2 Graphics Synthesizers, the Cirrus Logic 3Ci™ SoC and the Tandem Computers NonStop™ Himalaya™ and Cyclone™ series of massively-parallel servers. Several of the SoC and systems products received industry leadership recognition and delivered $200M to more than $1B in annual revenues.
Aurangzeb received an M.S. in Electrical Engineering and an M.S. in Engineering Management from Stanford University, executive education at the Stanford GSB, a double-major B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences and Nuclear Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley, and a B.Sc. in Physics and Mathematics from Government College, Lahore, where he stood first in class and received the Academic Roll of Honor.
Lars Herlitz, Co-Founder & CMO
In 2003, Lars co-founded W&W Communications, where he as President & CEO built a world leader in super low latency H.264 codec ICs. These solutions still today power leading video products in Broadcast, Video Conferencing, TelePresence, Medical and more. W&W Communications also pioneered wireless in-home distribution of HD video over standard WiFi which evolved into an industry standard now called Miracast.
W&W Communications was acquired by Cavium in 2008 where Lars served as GM Multimedia BU until 2011. During this time some of the largest CE companies adopted this low latency video technology in wireless video consumer products.
Earlier he was VP Engineering at Numerical Technologies from startup through $1B+ IPO (Nasdaq: NMTC) where he built the engineering department and managed all product development. Lars was also co-founder and CEO of DSP Research and prior held engineering, business development and management positions at Comdisco Systems and Cadence Design Systems where he developed industry leading DSP CAD tools.Lars holds an MS EE/CS from Linköping University in Sweden.
Atif Sarwari, Co-Founder & CTO
Co-founded Arktan Systems in 2008 where he successfully executed initiatives from concept to operations for 4 camera SKUs and 3 Camera Solutions. Drove company strategy and defined product & technology roadmaps
Prior to Arktan, Atif was at Micron Imaging (later Aptina) where he played a key role in making Micron a market leader in the Imaging Automotive SOC space (over $50M/year revenues) with multiple industry-first products
Earlier work at leading semiconductor companies included National Semiconductor, Philips, ST and Stratus Computer
Atif is the holder of several awarded and pending US patents
He graduated with high-honors from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1995 where he earned both his B.S. and M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering
Naveed Alam, Vice President of Software Engineering
Naveed brings a strong track record of industry success in development, engineering management and entrepreneurial management at such companies as Teneros™, Brocade®, Cosine Communications™, 3Com® and Arktan™, where he was a co-founder and developed the core technology. He was awarded an MS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Southern California and is the holder of five US patents.
Lucio Lanza, Managing Director & Founder, Lanza TechVentures
Lucio Lanza is a member of our board of directors. Lucio is the Managing Director of Lanza techVentures, an early stage venture capital and investment firm he founded in January 2001. Since 2008 he has been a General Partner and Chief Technology Strategist for Radnorwood Capital, LLC, an investor in public technology companies. In 1990, Lanza joined US Venture Partners, a venture capital firm, as a Venture Partner and was a General Partner. From 1990 to 1995, he was an independent consultant to companies in the semiconductor, communications and EDA industries, including Cadence Design Systems, Inc., and from 1986 to 1989, was Chief Executive Officer of EDA Systems, Inc. Before that he was with Daisy Systems Corp. as Vice President of Marketing and then General Manager of its EDA division. From 1977 to 1983 he held several positions with responsibility for strategy and innovation at Intel including Chairman of the Microprocessor Strategic Business Segment. From 1968 to 1977 he was responsible for processor architecture and design at Olivetti Corporation. Lanza served as a non-executive director of ARM until May 2010, and serves on the board of directors of PDF Solutions, Inc., a provider of technologies to improve semiconductor manufacturing yields. In August 2010 he joined the board of Harris & Harris Group, a publicly traded venture capital company that invests in nanotechnology and microsystems. He also serves on the board of directors of several private companies. He holds a doctorate in electronic engineering from Politecnico of Milano, Italy.
Dado Banatao, Managing Partner & Founder, Tallwood Venture Capital
Dado Banatao is the managing partner of Tallwood Venture Capital. With his past experiences as an entrepreneur, Dado provides Tallwood with a unique perspective in technology investments. Tallwood invests in unique and hard-to-do semiconductor technology solutions for computing, communication, and consumer platforms.
Prior to forming Tallwood, Dado was a venture partner at the Mayfield Fund. He co-founded three technology startups: S3 (SBLU), Chips & Technologies (INTC) and Mostron. He also held positions in engineering and general management at National Semiconductor, Seeq Technologies, Intersil and Commodore International. Dado pioneered the PC chip set and graphics acceleration architecture that continue to be two of the foundation technologies in every PC today. As an engineer, he is credited with developing several key semiconductor technologies and is regarded as a Silicon Valley visionary.
Dado serves as Chairman of Ikanos (IKAN), Inphi Corporation and Quintic Corporation and is on the board of directors of Alphion Corporation, CSR, Pixim Inc., Wave Semiconductor and Wilocity. He also served as Chairman and led investments in SiRF Technology, acquired by CSR; (CSR);Marvell Technology Group (MRVL); Acclaim Communications, acquired by Level One (INTC); Newport Communications, acquired by Broadcom (BRCM); Cyras Systems,acquired by Ciena (CIEN); and Stream Machine, acquired by Cirrus Logic (CRUS)
Dado holds a B.S.E.E., cum laude, from the Mapua Institute of Technology in the Philippines and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.
Rey Banatao, Founder & CTO, Entropy Resins, Inc.
Rey is co-founder and CTO of Entropy Resins, a pioneering clean tech company developing eco-friendly resins and performance composite materials. Rey is also currently an advisor to the Philippine California Advanced Research Insititutes (PCARI), a collaborative effort between the University of California and the Philippine government, aimed at helping the Philippines ‘leapfrog’ its capacity for technology and healthcare education, research, and industrialization for rapid economic development.
Prior to this, Rey was a NSF Postdoctoral Fellow at the California Nanosystems Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles. He holds a BA in Biochemistry from the University of California, Berkeley and a PhD in Computational Biology from the University of California, San Francisco.
Dayakar Puskoor, Managing Director, Naya Ventures
As Managing Director of Naya Ventures and Board Member of Altia Systems, Dayakar brings his record of achievement and expertise in building in the mobile, wireless and telecommunications businesses. Naya Ventures invests in early stage mobile technology and cloud based companies where its product development expertise, emerging market channel relationships and go-to-market strategies can efficiently increase enterprise value. Dayakar serves as a board member and advisor to other successful startups.
Prior to forming Naya, Dayakar owned the P&L for the Hosting & Mobility Solutions business at Microsoft, where he was responsible for the incubation, development and management of new mobility solutions and also led the $350M hosting business. Prior to joining Microsoft, as Founder and CEO of JP Mobile, Dayakar pioneered the industry's first mobile software solutions company. Dayakar began his career with Motorola and owned the P&L for the Paging product, including all aspects of design, development and world-wide customer support.
Dayakar is an active supporter of entrepreneurs and startups. He is also a board member of The Indus Entrepreneur (TiE) and has been involved with the Dallas chapter since 1999. Dayakar is a graduate of Stephen F. Austin University and earned a master's degree in computer science from Nova University.
